Creative Ways to Save for Travel
Just about everyone wants to travel. Of course, it’s not always simple to make happen because of the massive costs involved. So what can you do? The best thing to try is to be sure that you’re looking at not just standard ways to save money (like taking it out of your paycheck) but also some more creative methods that are going to be simple or even a little fun.
Eating Out
Are you one of those families that eat out at least once a week? Maybe you eat out even more than once a week? If you have a
family of four, you’re probably paying quite a bit each week in just that extra food when there is perfectly good food you could cook at home. By cutting out some of those nights going out, you’ll be able to save a lot of money. Even purchasing the groceries to cook at home is going to be less than going out. Take that money and put it away in an account somewhere so you can start those travel savings for the next trip. A little every week is something you won’t even notice, but it’s going to add up fast.
Cut Cable
If you still have cable, you are spending a whole lot of money on something that you don’t even need. You could pick up movies or even television shows on DVD at the library, and you would spend a lot less money and be able to get just the ones you want to see. A lot of shows even let you watch the latest episode on their website entirely free. So you will not miss out, and you are going to save quite a bit every month.
Sell Your Stuff
Now is where you’re probably starting to think ‘no way. I’m not selling my stuff!’ Well, we’re not talking about the stuff that is important to you. We’re not talking about the furniture that you use every day or the items with sentimental value. We’re talking about those things that have been sitting in a box in your basement ever since you moved, the extra items you completely forgot you even had. Because what good are they doing you sitting in a box or the back of a drawer somewhere never used? But those items might be of use to someone else, and that means they can make you a little money.
Take on Odd Jobs
You can take a part-time job to start making a little extra, or you could pick up odd jobs like you did when you were younger. Things like raking leaves, shoveling sidewalks, mowing lawns, cleaning gutters or anything else could help you earn a little extra money for your travel savings without taking up too much time or even too much effort.
Getting those travel savings together doesn’t need to be as difficult as you might think and you might find that you don’t even miss going out to eat or watching cable TV, and that means you can keep saving for a long time to come.
What are some creative things you have done to save money to travel? I have heard of people saving five dollar bills when they receive them as change. It’s surprising how quickly those can add up with little effort.
